Are you a chocolate lover? The next time you start eating a chocolate, wait for a minute. Do you like your heart? You can eat chocolates and also protect your heart. You may be wondering how is that possible.

Select Chocolates which have dark colour and has deep chocolate taste. Chocolate is made from plants. So they will contain the ingredients of dark vegetables too. The dark chocolates will have an antioxidant called Flavonoids. Flavonoids are polyphenolic compounds that are ubiquitous in nature and are categorized, according to chemical structure, into flavonols, flavones, flavanones, isoflavones, catechins, anthocyanidins and chalcones.

Flavonoids have antiviral, anti-allergic, antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and antioxidant activities. This will help to avoid the blocks in the blood vessels, which will cause heart disease.

Only the dark chocolates will have Flavonoids. Flavonoids exist naturally in cacao. The white chocolates and the milk chocolates does not contain this antioxidant.

Flavonoids also help relax blood pressure through the production of nitric oxide, and balance certain hormones in the body.

So eating moderate amounts will help to protect your heart in two ways: By lowering blood pressure, in people with high BP, and also by reducing LDL cholestrol by upto 10 percent.

All the above information does not mean that you can eat any amount of chocolate daily. They are still high in calories and fat. So if you are eating half a bar of chocolate, you should reduce other sweets and snacks consumption, in order to balance your diet. Some research shows that drinking milk after eating chocolate will prevent the absorption of anti oxidants into the body. So avoid drinking milk after consuming chocolate.
